There are thousands upon thousands of WordPress themes available for your website. It can be very overwhelming, especially if you’re not a techie person. That’s why I’ve decided to share some of my favorite WordPress themes for beginners!

What do I look for in a good WordPress theme? I want to make sure that I can customize the look and make it personal to my style. No one wants a cookie cutter website that looks like everyone else. All of the WordPress themes for beginners that I recommend below have great customization options that I think you’ll love.

In today’s post, I am going to show you my favorite WordPress themes for beginners:

Let’s dive in!

Thrive Themes

Thrive Themes is by far my favorite company to get themes from… in fact, this website was built with Thrive using the Rise theme.

They currently have ten different themes that you can choose from and all of them look great!

The awesome thing about Thrive Themes is they also have a whole powerhouse of tools to help you build an amazing website. Here is everything they have to offer:

Thrive Architect

This is Thrive’s drag-and-drop editor. You don’t need any coding skills or anything. What you see is what you get and there are so many options that you can choose from to add to your page.

With Thrive Architect, you also get landing page templates that are complete time savers.

Thrive Leads

If you want to build an email list, Thrive Leads is perfect for setting up opt-in boxes. You can create sidebar boxes, popup boxes, slide-in boxes, screen overlays, and more. You can also create A/B test forms, track analytics and connect almost all major mailing list platforms (such as MailChimp, Aweber, etc).

Thrive Ovation

This plugin allows you to collect and display customer testimonials in a visually appealing way. If you have a great comment that would be perfect to display as a testimonial, you can quickly import it into the plugin and display it on your pages.

If you’re building sales pages for a product or service, this is a great way to provide proof and validity to the quality of your offering.

Thrive Ultimatum

Give your audience a sense of urgency and boost conversions by setting different types of time-sensitive campaigns: fixed date campaigns, automatically recurring campaigns, and ongoing “evergreen” campaigns.

Thrive Headline Optimizer

The headline optimizer is great for making sure you have the best headlines to capture reader’s attention.

You’ll be able to A/B test and analyze your headlines to make sure you’re converting your posts. The best headlines will automatically be unlocked so your posts are consistently optimized to bring the most views.

Thrive Clever Widgets

You don’t always want every widget showing on every page.

That’s where Clever Widgets come in handy.

You can set display options for your widgets so they are displaying exactly where you want them.

Thrive Quiz Builder

This is a great way to boost website engagement while also gathering information from your audience. Serve customers what they need!

With the information you gather from the quiz builder, you’ll be able to discover what your readers are interested in, offer them content based on their interests, and segment your visitors based on those interests.

Thrive Comments

Allow your readers to comment using their social profiles. Also, with Thrive Comments, visitors can like and upvote other comments and receive badges for comment achievements!

Another great benefit is after leaving a comment, they’ll automatically be prompted to share their comment on their social network.

Thrive Optimize

We spend so much time perfecting our landing page but it would be even better to make variations and then A/B test to make sure you’re converting your visitors.

All of these features work together with your Thrive Theme and Architect so that you can quickly and easily set up a website that works for you!

You can purchase each of these amazing tools individually or save over $700 with a Thrive Membership and get everything!

GeneratePress

This is a theme that I have used before and really loved it. Like Thrive Themes, it’s simplicity is what sets it apart from others… let alone the low price for everything you get. GeneratePress does have a free version of their theme that you can download here to try. I highly recommend getting the premium version as it offers so many more features that will help you customize your website.

Here are a few of the key features of Premium GeneratePress that make it an awesome WordPress theme for beginners.

Site Library

Not a web designer? No worries!

GeneratePress has an entire library of demo site templates for you to choose from and install! This is a great opportunity for you to have a design and layout you love without paying big bucks for a web designer.

Also, GeneratePress integrates with page builders such as Beaver Builder and Elementor.

Custom Colors

Most beginners know nothing of CSS and HTML so being able to do something as simple as changing your site colors with just a click of a button is a major benefit.

With over 60 options, you can change the body color, header, footer, menu, forms and more! Select any color you can imagine for any area of your website!

Custom Fonts

Not everyone likes a standard font on their website.

Sometimes it’s fun to change the font style of your headings or titles and with the Typography module, it’s super easy to change your website font styles to match your blog style!

GeneratePress uses Google Fonts so there are many to choose from!

WooCommerce Integration

If you want to sell physical products, digital products, or affiliate products, it’s important to have an online store that looks nice and integrates with your theme.

With this module, you can customize the look and feel of your store to match your brand by changing the colors and font styles. In addition, you can easily change the design of your store and how the products are displayed.

Page Sections

This is a great feature if you want to customize pages with sections to include an “About” section, your services, a video, etc. Sections break up your page so it doesn’t look like one long page full of text.

This module will help your website be more visually appealing.

Custom Menu Options

Whether you want a standard menu or a sticky menu that stays at the top of the screen as you scroll, all is possible with GeneratePress menu module.

Not only can you edit the desktop display of your menu bar, but you can also change the look of your mobile menu. This will help you engage your mobile readers that much more. A win-win!

You can even choose to have your logo move to the menu as you scroll down the screen. Need a logo? Create your personal designed logo here for free.

Page Header

Mix things up with a great looking header image.

You can choose to set a standard image, parallax image or even spice it up with a video!

This adds an extra special feel to your site and sets the tone for what the rest of the page is about.

Blog Layouts

Your blog layout doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. With a click of a button, you can change the feel of your blog by displaying your posts in columns (magazine style) or masonry.

You can even change the post image size and alignment! You’ll have options for displaying categories and author information, as well as you excerpt length and featured image placement.

Custom Backgrounds

Another great feature of Premium GeneratePress is you don’t have to have a standard white background. Change your background to be a different color or an awesome image!

You can upload your own images and use them in various places on the theme to give your website or blog that special unique look.

Spacing

One thing that makes your site appealing and easy to follow is “white space”. This is areas of your website that are purposely left blank (not necessarily the color white, just empty of other graphics or elements).

This gives your website a cleaner look and can be done with the spacing module. You can adjust your header, body, sidebar and more!

Second Navigation

Sometimes we have so many great things to share that one navigation (or menu) bar is not enough.

You can add your second menu bar in various locations of your site, including the very top, within the header, under the main, and more!

The second navigation bar is great for blog or store categories!

Custom Copyright

Most free themes come with a copyright at the bottom that you cannot change.

With the premium version of GeneratePress, you can display a custom copyright message. If you’re a little more advanced, you can even use custom HTML to add more links or whatever you would like.

Disable Elements

If you’re creating landing pages or sales pages, you want to make sure that your readers are staying focused on what you’re trying to tell them.

Therefore, you might want to disable some elements like the header or footer so that your visitors don’t get distracted by clicking on other pages of your site.

Hooks

This is a great module for inserting AdSense code, Google Analytics code, or even custom banners with call-to-action text.

This may be a little advanced for some users but it’s a great tool to learn how to use so you can capture the attention of your readers to complete a certain action.

Import/Export

With this module, you can export certain looks and styles and import them to a separate site.

We can be really indecisive sometimes. Thankfully, this module also allows you to backup your current look and design in case you want to experiment with other styles.
